Great LEGO Sets For Building Engineering Skills

Toys are not just for entertainment anymore. Toy companies are venturing into the education field and are trying to leave their footprints with the help of STEM toys.


What are STEM toys?

STEM stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The STEM toys focus on educating kids in these fields by including them into their toys. The recent STEM toys are focusing on robotics and coding.


Lego STEM toys:

If you ask our opinion, Lego has always been teaching and educating children and grownups alike, but hadn’t been “labeled” as such so far. I mean, take Lego Serious play for instance. We’re Strategy Awayday and we’re in team building in Scotland. Lego Serious Play sets have been teaching grownups and bringing out their inner STEM skills for years now.

But now Lego Education has introduced their own STEM collections. Let’s take a look at few of them here.

Lego Duplo (Ages 1.5 - 5)
A great set for preschoolers, with colourful blocks to attract them while teaching them workings of different machines.

LEGO BOOST creative toolbox (Ages 7-12)

The best out of them all the STEM sets, Board awayday this allows children to create robots with motors and sensors and even teaches them coding through icon-based commands.

Lego MINDSTORMS (Ages 10+)

Another look into robotics and coding but more advanced than the Boost kit. LEGO Technic These sets are the advanced version in the STEM sets. These sets teach actual working of hydraulic cranes, motors, propellers, etc with remote controllers and joy sticks. Great projects for all ages, here’s a few to help you start with.
